Professor Anita Saxena was born on June 9, 1963 and was a professor of nephrology (renal nutrition) at the prestigious Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, India.

She did her Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Cambridge University in 1995 and again got Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the Addenbrook's Hospital, Cambridge University, England, in 1996. She got a senior research fellowship from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as a Pool Officer from 1997 to 2000 for a project on physical growth of thalassemic patients in medical genetics department, SGPGIMS and Senior Research Associate (SRA) from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) from 2000 to 2003 for a project on the effect of oral iron chelator kelfer on thalassemic patients, in medical genetics department, SGPGIMS. She received the Young Scientist Award from DST from 2003 to 2006 for a project on renal nutrition Nephrology Department, estimation of dry weight and nutritional status using bioelectrical impedance in patients on hemodialysis patients.

After that, she joined as an assistant professor in the Department of Nephrology, SGPGIMS, Lucknow. She was actively involved in the management of renal nutrition of patients. Her contribution in the field of renal nutrition cannot be undermined. She established the Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism in 2014. She also started the official journal of society of renal nutrition and metabolism (www.jrnm.in), for which she served as the Editor-in-Chief. She set up the advanced facilities of kitchen services as a nodal officer of the dietetics department of SGPGIMS, Lucknow.

She received numerous awards, that is, FICCI Outstanding Woman in Medicine and Healthcare 2020, Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Kalam Excellence 2020, and Bharat Jyoti Award 2017 for her service to the society in a movement on the fight against malnutrition in chronic kidney disease. International Excellence Award for distinguished achievement and service for keeping the "Flag Of India High" 28th April Colombo Sri Lanka For Fight against malnutrition in chronic kidney disease. She also received the International Woman of the Year 1999-2000 from International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England, the 20th Century Award of Achievement from International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England, in 1999 for her contribution to human biology, and the Young Scientist Award Department of Science and Technology (DST) in 2003. She was responsible for establishing the advanced course on renal nutrition and metabolism at SGPGIMS, Lucknow. She had multiple publications and established herself in the field of clinical as well as basic science research and in the field of nutrition and metabolism across the board in India as well as internationally. Unfortunately, she suffered from malignancy and died on November 6 in Orlando, USA.
